HMRC is set to introduce new tax registration checks for licensing
The government is going to announce plans to bring in mandatory registration tax checks for all public sector licensing.
HMRC previously consulted the public over these changes last December in the report ‘tackling the hidden economy: public sector licensing’ public consultation.
As part of the autumn budget the chancellor announced that following the public consultation (that took place in December 2017) the government would implement changes which would introduce a more rigorous application process for registration for tax in order to be granted public sector licenses. These changes look to make it more difficult to trade in the hidden economy, putting compliant businesses on a level playing field.
HMRC have confirmed they will publish a summary of its responses on the 7th of November.
The following public sector license types will be affected by the government’s new proposals: Scrap metal dealers, street/market traders, Taxi drivers, SIA, HMO’s, Massage and special treatment premises licences.
